The last time I posted, the only thing saying fall was the calendar. Here we are in October and the temperatures (at least in the mornings and evenings) have finally decided to cooperate. I am loving the opportunity to finally begin wearing some fall pieces out of necessity. This week I’m adding plaid to my fall style short list.
Trend to Try: Plaid
Mad for Plaid. Plaid Pairings. Pumpkins and Plaid. Lexi is Wearing a Utility Vest Again. So many alternate titles for this post, but the point remains the same: plaid is one of my favorite fall trends. I love that it’s a print that can be worn in so many different ways. You can wear it to work in the form of a button-up top or to the apple orchard in the form of a blanket scarf (I just got this one in the mail and can’t get over how much I love the colors!). You can opt for the plaid shirtdress for date night or pair an oversized plaid top with leggings and call it loungewear.
I purchased this plaid button-up at Target a few weeks ago. To be honest, I’m pretty picky about button-ups and don’t wear them frequently. I’m OCD and when they do that annoying gappy-thing in the front (you know what I’m talking about) it drives me crazy! But as I walked down the rows of adorable fall clothes (my first mistake), it called to me. I touched it (my second mistake) and the fabric was so soft! It was mine. I had to have it. I hadn’t even tried it on, but I was going to make it work. I was pleasantly surprised with the boyfriend fit and loved the olive color.
I added a utility vest, leggings, some booties and bam–we were off to taco night.
Trend I’m Skipping Out On: Cold Shoulder
I know, I know. Everyone loves cold shoulder tops. Don’t get me wrong–I think they are adorable on other people and I keep trying them on hoping for the best…only to be majorly let down. They make my shoulders look enormous. I’m not giving up hope forever, but for now I’ll keep looking longingly at all of you fashionistas out there making them look so good!
We’ve spent the last two nights out on our porch and it has been heavenly. There is nothing like curling up with a new book, an apple scented candle, and a nice warm blanket! If you add a glass of wine, it’s practically perfect. What are your favorite things about fall?
